Cheers to 119 Years with Golden Gate Hotel & Casino!

It is wild to count the number of hotels that were either erected or have come into market over the past century throughout the Las Vegas valley. In the last two years alone we have welcomed quite a few new properties including Fontainebleau, Durango Resort, Conrad Las Vegas, Horseshoe, Amalz Suites Collection, Crockfords Las Vegas, Virgin Hotels, Queen Las Vegas, Ojos Locos, The Lexi and W Las Vegas (again). Subsequently, we have said farewell to The Mirage, Tropicana, Bally’s, Lucky Club, The Lexi and Delano.

But the very first hotel, having opened as Hotel Nevada in January of 1906, recently celebrated its 119th anniversary. The construction of this concrete lodging establishment with a mere 10 rooms unintentionally helped to pave the foundation of our city’s illustrious trajectory.

The Golden Gate Hotel & Casino is a location of significant firsts and legendary guests! In honor of its birthday, a drawing was held to invite a limited number of winners on an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the property with CEO and owner, Derek Stevens and members of the Golden Gate team. Social Exchange was one of the lucky few selected to join in on this ‘golden opportunity’ immersed in a plethora of historical artifacts and followed by a private book signing and cocktail reception in their penthouses. Check out moments from the tour here in this video.

Although the torch wasn’t passed directly from John F. Miller to the current owner, Stevens proudly carries that same fire—a passion to not only preserve this time-capsule, but to keep the flame burning bright in Downtown Las Vegas.
